The Sims Online has been quoted by EA representatives previously when talking about future plans for The Sims 4, notably in 2020, Electronic Arts CEO Andrew Wilson said "We will always stay true to our inspiration, escape, creation, and self-improvement motivations, that this notion of social interactions and competition – like the kind of things that were actually present in The Sims Online many, many years ago – that they will start to become part of the ongoing Sims experience in the years to come ". Previous forays into multiplayer for the franchise have included, The Sims Online in 2002 and The Sims: Bustin' Out in 2003, both of which had their servers shut down in 2008. Currently, there is no multiplayer system in place, despite it being a commonly asked question from The Sims fans. The Sims 4 is currently available across all consoles and PCs.
